WebI don't know if the XM4 has the same limitation but I have the XM3 and you cannot use the mic in wired mode. This is a bizarre limitation that truly baffles me. Sony itself makes wireless headsets that cost less than $100 and the mic works in wired mode. Meanwhile their $350 premium wireless set does not. WebTurns out my XM2s survived the wash, so now I have both. Both great. XM4 is much lighter and is wider than the ears. XM2 is tighter gripping and sits on the ears, which makes for better isolation. Both sound and cancel noise roughly the same. XM4 doesn't support the better codec on windows (and windows doesn't support the better codec on XM4).
WebJul 10, 2024 · To answer your question, you can use it without powered up through the cable, or passively with battery depleted, but it will sound worse than when it's on. You can also power it on and use wired as well. I think the ANC chip is doing some sort of EQ with the ANC on, and that is why I think the headphone sounds better with ANC on.
